Here at Colours of Discovery, we specialise in building small to medium-size websites for many different purposes and use’s. We offer very competitive prices and a wide range of options for creating your site.
We work using Drupal and WordPress content management systems (CMS). However if you have something else in mind let us know as we can also work with static sites or other CMS’s. If you like designing your self you can make a mock up of your site in Photoshop or similar programs and we can cut it and make it into a site for you.

This website was built to promote a new climbing area in south-west China. It's a simple, clean fluid width site built into Drupal 6.
The next stage of the site, I'm planning to implement Facebook connect. This will allow users to login with their Facebook user ID, instead of having to create a whole new username and password just for this site. As there are so many web two sites on the Internet now, it's hard for people to keep track of multiple usernames and passwords. This is where things like Facebook connect or open ID really come into their own. Over the next month or two you should see a small Facebook connect button on this site.

fengshan.info was created as an open site for people to add information about fengshan. Written in Drupal 6 this site allows new users to create profiles and write content under a number of categories.

The site uses a well supported Drupal theme (0 point) with very little modifications.

This is a small personal site for a theatre lighting rigger and electrician. He has had the site for a number of years but could never edit it him self. We put Drupal 7 as a back end to the site so he can update it whenever he likes.
The site is very simple and fast loading. It has a photo gallery, contact form and a few basic pages. The header is underlined with an animated gif which used to be in flash but we changed it so it works on browsers without flash like the ones built into Ipads and Iphones.

A content management system (CMS) is a web-based application, which most commonly runs in PHP. It runs in the background behind your website, and allows you to have interactive content and pages which are editable without writing code. This is what we call web two, sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn all run their own CMS and/or fall into the category of web two.
The three most popular CMS's are Drupal, Joomla and WordPress. They'll open source, and all have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Drupal is a well-developed CMS with a very friendly and helpful community, it's ideal for building sites of any size and is very customisable. However because it's so customisable it takes a bit of time to configure it, put together and understand it. www.drupal.org
Joomla is an equally powerful and advanced content management system. It also has a big user community. Joomla is most useful for building nice looking sites quickly and easily. However many of the add-ons and plug-ins you need to build a site with Joomla cost money. www.joomla.org
WordPress is equally friendly and open source and is tailored towards the building of small websites and blogs. However it's been in existence a very long time and has a huge variety of themes plug-ins and add-ons; making this arguably as flexible and as powerful as any other CMS. http://www.wordpress.org
We can work with all three of the CMS's. However we prefer to work with Drupal or WordPress. Because we can make sites with many add-ons and plug-ins than are free to upgrade and maintain.
SEO (search engine optimisation) means to help search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing find and list your website. You could have the most beautiful website in the world, but if nobody can find it its pretty much as good as useless. Not all websites require SEO, for example: some websites are built for internal use and some are built for existing customers. Most websites benefit from good search rankings; and many companies make a living helping people boost their search rankings with all sorts of interesting and magical solutions. It all depends on your needs, but a simple, well laid out website with friendly code and lots of content that gets updated regularly will get a good search ranking anyway.
At Colours of Discovery we like to design your website so that it is friendly for people to read and friendly for Google site robots and other search engines as well. There's no magic solution, and there's no way of guaranteeing high search engine rankings as modern search engines do not rely on meta tags or anyone particular way of grading your website. The search engine robots are pretty advanced taking into consideration many aspects; including: page load times, content, page titles, meta tags, page descriptions, how often the site is updated, who the site links to, and many other factors.
